Hong Kong Disneyland – Then & Now

When I was a child, I’ve always wanted to see Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Mickey Mouse for real. I grew up watching and fantasizing that one day, I could meet them personally. And so came our first out of the country trip, of course in HongKong.

HongKong is so far, our favorite Asian destination. We’ve been there three times already and the first time was in 2009. To see Disneyland is the one thing that made us decide to visit Hongkong than other neighboring countries. It was a dream come true! I’m so blessed to finally step on the place I dream of for the very long time. I was on my late 20’s back then but suddenly, I became a child again the moment I saw Mickey Mouse’s surfing fountain. It’s an unexplainable feeling.

And Believe it or not, I literally cried (because of joy) while recording the ending fireworks.

Hongkong Disneyland - Castle and Fireworks

Our second visit in Hong Kong was March 17 , 2011 (my birthday) but we never had the chance to go to Disneyland. This year, last February 20, we revisited HongKong and made sure to drop by at the famous theme park. There’s not much improvement on the facilities though except for the Toy Story land but Hong Kong Disneyland had never failed us. It still has the magic that can turn any adult to be young again. Such a nice feeling.

The whole area of Hong Kong Disneyland is really big. A whole day of just roaming around is good but will never be enough if you would try the rides and see the spectacular shows. This time, we made sure that we go to the areas that we have not visited before. Anyways, Disneyland also offer a two-day pass. So if you’re planning to go and have plenty of time, you can also to avail that.

So the shows that you shouldn’t miss are Golden Mickey and the Lion King. If you are adventurous enough, you can also try the rides in the Toy Story land and the Space Mountain. Before going home, make sure to see the fireworks at the castle. Go there early to find a good spot before the show starts.

P.S. We actually enjoyed more our visit this year because we went there on our own. We are joined in a tour group so it was like “bitin” last time . Our bus still have to fetch other tourists that cold morning and we arrived in Disneyland at almost lunch time.

Access to the theme park is very easy using the MTR. The station is Sunnybay then you just interchange lanes to Disneyland. I highly recommend that you go there on foot. Winter season is also a great time to walk around. Make sure that you are geared properly to enjoy your tour.

Here are few of the hundreds Hong Kong Disyneyland photos that we took in 2009 and 2011. In 2009, we only have 173 photos during our entire 4-day trip so we only have few in Disneyland. The rest of the hundreds were taken this year. Yes, the 128MB storage are so over. =)
